AutoRouter brings your coding accounts into Codex, with automatic task routing and no paid model API fallback.
Windows alpha. An eligible account for each task.
How routing works
Ask AutoRouter to handle a task in Codex. Cloudflare Clef identifies its category and complexity; local rules select an enabled account with the required access.
Routes can vary by task and complexity. Unavailable accounts are skipped before launch. Once a job starts, an error or exhausted allowance stops it rather than retrying another provider.
Your accounts, connected locally
Sign in with each provider’s own CLI. AutoRouter uses that access; it does not turn a free account into a paid subscription.
- Codex ChatGPT account
- Eligible ChatGPT access. Handles read-only work and all file changes in the Codex sandbox.
- Cursor Free or included access
- Free-plan Auto, or included Composer access where available. Read-only tasks.
- Claude Code Pro or Max required
- Claude Free cannot connect to Claude Code. An eligible Pro or Max account enables read-only tasks.
- Grok Build Eligible grok.com account
- Uses the models available through your signed-in Grok account. Read-only tasks.
- OpenCode Restricted free route
- Anonymous Big Pickle access, while available and verified free. Its data may be used to improve the model. Read-only tasks.
Every provider starts disabled. Confirm included access and turn off paid overages or top-ups before enabling an account. Availability and limits are set by the provider.
Set up in Codex
You’ll need Windows, PowerShell, Node.js 22.18+, pnpm, Codex with MCP support and an authenticated Cloudflare CLI. Install only the provider CLIs you intend to use.
git clone https://github.com/sansynx/autorouter.git
Set-Location autorouter
pnpm install --frozen-lockfile
The repository is currently private. Cloning requires authorized GitHub access.
After connecting, select AutoRouter from Plugins and ask it to check status. Then try a read-only task. Read the full setup instructions for billing confirmations and troubleshooting.
Know the boundaries
- No paid model API fallback. Model API credentials and endpoint overrides are excluded from agent environments. Account-side spending caps still need to be set by you.
- Cloudflare classification is separate. Clef receives the task and supplied context and may incur Cloudflare charges. The chosen agent may send workspace content to its provider.
- You control the workspace. Only Codex handles file changes. Other agents are read-only, without an OS sandbox. Computer-use routing is blocked. Use trusted projects.
AutoRouter is a local MCP integration. It runs when Codex calls its tools and does not add models to Codex’s native model picker.
